"Re: Central Auto Sales The Tale of Two Car Dealers or Why You Should Buy From Central I recently purchased a used VW New Beetle from Eliot at Central Motor Sales in Wrentham, Mass. and could not be happier with their honest and detailed representation of the car, their service and the price. I live in midcoast Maine so I wasn’t thrilled about making the five hour trip to Wrentham. But this was the exact car and color I was looking for and Eliot was wonderful to deal with and negotiate with on the phone. Before heading to Mass. we stopped to look at another VW New Beetle and a well known VW dealer in Maine. THe manager of the dealership told me the car was pale cream color I liked. He said it was in “perfect” condition. I asked him to go out and thoroughly check the car over for dings, scratches, etc. I did not want to make the two hour trip to his dealership unless this car was in great shape. He called me back and assured me there wasn’t a ding or scratch on the car. “Show room perfect,” he said. We had a long discussion about the color. I didn’t want a screaming yellow car. He assured me it was not yellow. Saturday my husband and I went to the VW dealer in Maine with high expectations hoping to save ourselves the five hour drive to Mass. The car wasn’t beige it was hideous neon yellow! When you looked at the car from the front, the hood was not aligned property and looked like it had been bent and badly repaired. From the side you could tell the driver’s door had obviously been re-painted and did not match the paint on the rest of the car. Also, the driver’s door did not open and close properly. My husband deduced that the car had been in an accident. The manager assured me it had not. I asked to see the car fax. “Well, we have to pay for those,” he said. “But I’ll get it for you.” He re-appeared with a few pages of the car fax that listed obvious information about the car, but omitted the pages that would have shown accidents and repairs. We left the car fax and the ugly neon yellow car on the lot and headed to Mass. Eliot had taken the VW New Beetle to be washed when we arrived at Central Motor Sales. As I was looking out the office window Eliot pulled onto the lot in the Aquarius Blue VW Beetle . It was beautiful. Really beautiful. We looked the car over closely. It was truly perfect, just as Eliot had described it. Eliot had gone over the car carefully and described the condition of the car in great detail over the phone.The tiny ding by the door handle, which Eliot had told us about on the phone, was barely noticeable, but we appreciated his honesty in telling us about it. If we hadn’t known better we would have believed this was a new car. The paper work was done quickly and we drove off in our new (used) Aquarius Blue VW New Beetle and we couldn’t have been happier. I’ve bought a lot of cars in my day and believe me, it is not often you can say good things about car dealers. Central Motor Sales is, without a doubt, the exception. While I was initially concerned about driving all the way to Mass. to a relatively small used car dealer I was completely delighted with everyone’s attention, service and honesty. On the other hand, the VW dealer in Maine was not only a disappointment, but the manager outright lied about the condition of the car. Long story short, if you’re looking for a good, clean used car I would not hesitate in calling Central Motor Sales. When my husband’s old Jeep finally dies, we will definitely ask Eliot to find us a new used car. I give this dealership FIVE STARS!!!!! Ruth & John Brooklin, Maine "
